Our Peruvian adventure explores the natural and historic wonders of this vast and colorful country. Paddle through the tropical jungle of the Upper Amazon, and raft the thrilling rapids of the Apurimac River. Explore the sacred valley of the Incas, hike to the mystical ruins of Machu Picchu, and return to Cusco on the famous "zig-zag" train. Sea Kayak the legendary waters of Lake Titicaca, and visit the floating island villages of the Uros. Live with traditional villagers, then assist them with needed projects at their schools. Experience the most complete and diverse Peruvian adventure on this amazing South American journey.

Explore Peru's Pacific Coast

Following our group flight from Miami to Lima, we'll travel south to the coastal Ballestas Islands, home to dolphins, flamingos, sea lions and penguins. Returning to shore, we'll explore local ruins, experience a local feast and relax on Peru's finest beach.

Discover the Peruvian Amazon

Following a flight to Puerto Maldonado, we'll travel by canoe to a tropical eco-lodge within the Tambopata Natural Reserve, our home for the next four days. This rainforest jungle is home to over 800 species of birds as well as monkeys, caimans, jaguars and ocelots. Here we'll learn about Peru's rainforest environment, the threats to it and what is being done to save it. Our naturalists will explain general aspects of rainforest ecology and the natural history as well as medicinal uses of plants. From our jungle outpost, we'll hike to a canopy tower to view toucans, scarlet and blue macaws as well as a variety of parrots. On the oxbow lake of Tres Chimbadas we'll see giant river otters and turtles from our canoe. Numerous hiking trails in the area take us to lookouts where we'll be amazed by dozens of parakeets feeding with larger blue-headed and orange-cheeked parrots in a riotous and colorful tropical display. At night, we'll be amazed by the sounds of Howler monkeys and flashlight walks in the jungle will reveal nocturnal amphibians.

Raft the Apurimac River

Following a short flight to Cusco we'll travel through the Andes and explore the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The next day we depart on our two day descent of the legendary Urubamba River for some serious fun and camping on a sandy beach at night. Surrounded by spectacular Andean cliffs, we'll raft exciting class III rapids on the first day, followed by eleven kilometers of thrilling non-stop class IV rapids on day two.

HIke Among the Andean Peaks

From the Sacred Valley of the Incas, we begin our hike among the mountainous Andean peaks. With porters carrying our gear and camping along the way, our four-day trek takes us past numerous ancient Incan ruins and many small villages. On our fourth and final day, we awaken in the early morning and hike to Inti Punku pass where we'll catch our first glimpse of the seemingly unreal and beautiful Machu Picchu below us. We'll spend the remainder of the day exploring the Lost City of the Incas and its many temples, towers and stone palaces. We can see why many people call this the "eighth wonder of the world." We conclude our day with a soak in the Aqua Calientes hot springs before boarding the historic "zig-zig" train back to Cusco.

Sea Kayak on Lake Titicaca

At 12,500 feet, Lake Titicaca is the world’s highest navigable lake and legend has it that the founders of Machu Picchu emerged from these waters. We begin our exploration from the colorful town of Puno, with its markets filled with traditional handicrafts and the sounds of Andean flutes surrounding us. Our journey by sea kayak takes us past tiny and surreal floating islands made of reeds, inhabited by the Uros, descendants of the ancient peoples.

Live with the native Indians and help with Village projects

Our sea kayaking journey takes us to the islands of Taquile and Amantani where we are welcomed into the homes of villagers in small groups. We'll partake in traditional family meals and experience daily village life. Each day we'll help with needed community projects at their schools and playgrounds. On our final day we'll visit the Puno people.

For students completing 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th grades, grouped according to age.
