Our Goals

We are the leading teen adventure camp for young adults today because of how well we achieve our three primary goals: first, by providing you with the skills for a lifetime of safely enjoying the outdoors; second, by offering you a fun outdoor experience relevant to your life beyond the outdoors...

...by instilling in you self-confidence, self-relience and lasting group leadership skills; and third, by teaching you responsible use of wild lands and concern for the continual preservation of these areas for future generations.

Acquiring Outdoor Skills
When you join a Wilderness Ventures trip, you will learn a variety of safe outdoor living skills through your exposure to a wide range of outdoor activities and environments. You will learn teen adventure camp skills such as trip planning, backcountry travel, outdoor cooking, minimum impact camping, all within an environment which is non-competitive and stress free. While we certainly believe in challenge, we also believe that teen adventure camps should be fun. You will come away from your teen adventure camp with self- confidence in your ability to function in these environments and with a burning desire to return to the wilderness and the outdoors throughout your life.

Becoming A Peer Leader
Because of our small teen adventure camp group size and our very low student-to-staff ratios, you will receive the highest level of individual attention, and you will be counted on to be a valuable contributor to your small group. Your most rewarding achievement will be learning how to live with your small community and how to place your own personal needs behind those of your teen adventure camp. As a result of our focus on you as an individual and your responsibility to your group, you will be amazed at how quickly your group bonds. By the conclusion of your trip, you will return home having experienced profound personal growth with a better understanding of yourself. You will have gained self-confidence, self-reliance and a greater sense of responsibility for your life, with vastly enhanced leadership and teamwork skills.

Caring for Wild Lands
When we founded Wilderness Ventures in 1972, we were fortunate that access to the most spectacular wilderness environments in North America was still available. Our access to so many of these magnificent places is unmatched by any other similar-appearing teen adventure camp. (See Our Last Best Places.) While we are privileged to be able to visit these natural treasures on our teen adventure camps, our travels through them instill in us a responsibility for their future survival. On our teen adventures and expeditions, you will learn not only the finest methods of zero impact camping, but you will also gain a love for these places and a burning desire to see them preserved so that your children might have a similar experience.
