Days 1-3
Throughout our arrival day in Los Angeles, our staff will be meeting each group member at LAX and checking them into our connecting group flight to Tahiti. Once we have everyone checked in, our group will have dinner before boarding the evening flight. Believe it or not, it will take us the better part of two days (not many people can say they have crossed the International Date Line!) to reach our final destination, the island of Moorea, off the coast of Tahiti. Our arrival into Tahiti will bring us into the small town of Papeete. While we are preparing for our first diving experience, the scenery from our beachside bungalows will remind us we have reached paradise. After purchasing some provisions at the local market, we will enjoy our first meal prepared as a group.Days 4-9
Many of us have been looking forward to diving in this exotic locale since the day we enrolled in the program. For five fabulous days, we will work with a dive outfit recognized as a worldwide leader in SCUBA education. For the majority of us who are not currently certified, we will embark on the five day learn to dive program. The first two days of the program will consist of pool and classroom training with our instructors. By the end of the second day, we will be ready to use our new skills out in the open water. For those of us who are already certified to dive prior to arriving, you will have the option to do several more open water dives during the first two days of the program while the rest of the group is in the pool. Our final day on the breathtaking island of Moorea will be spent hiking to one of the highest elevations on the island.. The astonishing views from this elevation will provide panoramic views of the entire island and leave us with an incredible final memory from our time spent on the island of Moorea.Days 10-12
After a short ferry ride from Moorea to Tahiti we will have time to do laundry, shop, and relax before we venture out to the surf to "hang ten." Over the next two days we will begin our surfing expedition in one of the most beautiful environments in the world. If you have never surfed before this will be the perfect place for you to learn with personalized attention and customized instruction. If you are already a seasoned surfer you will be able to surf all day with local experts who will be willing to offer you advice allowing you to improve your surfing skills. We will have access to a variety of surfboards. From large, soft, foam boards, to quick and edgy, composite boards, there will be a board to accommodate any style of rider. We will break for a mid-afternoon lunch before heading out for a late afternoon session. The surf is spectacular and can accommodate any level. In the evenings we will return to our private campground, enjoy a hearty meal and relax under the stars by our evening bonfire on the beach.Days 13-15
After two days of riding the waves in Tahiti, we will hop a quick flight to Auckland, New Zealand. Upon arrival, we will be transferred by private motor coach to a working Kiwi farm. Here, we will spend the next 2 days assisting our host family with the day-to-day operations: milking cows, sheering sheep, and feeding the horses. The location of the farm provides and excellent base for exploring surrounding areas. We will go on a night hike in search of the nocturnal Kiwi and climb Maunganui Bluff one afternoon for incredible views of the ocean and New Zealand. Also, we will participate in cooking classes and assist in the preparation of dinner, utilizing and preparing fresh produce from the farm.Days 16-19
Our private motor coach will transport us to the Bay of Islands, located in the northeast quadrant of New Zealand's northern territory. We will have time to do laundry, send trip updates, and shop for provisions before we will take to the ocean and learn how to sail from an experienced crew the following day. We will sleep on the boat, and explore the Bay of Islands in a way few others have the opportunity to do. We will learn the basics of sailing and even navigate the boat ourselves. There will be time to swim and snorkel, for the ocean will be our home. Few experiences compare with sleeping under the Southern Cross on a boat off the coast of New Zealand.Days 20-24
We will take flight, once again, to our final destination, Fiji. Upon arrival, we will transfer to our beach side bungalows for a few final days of SCUBA diving and village service. Now that we are all SCUBA certified, we will dive as a group off the southern coast of Fiji. Little can compare with the untainted beauty of the crystal clear, warm waters of the South Pacific. We will also have the opportunity to participate in an ongoing Wilderness Ventures service project in a neighboring village. Working with the village's children, teaching basic English, and volunteering in this community, is sure to be a memorable experience and a major highlight on this trip of a lifetime.Days 25-27
Our final few days will be spent aboard our private sailboat. We will visit some of the most remote and beautiful islands in the world. The snorkeling opportunities are endless. As we visit the islands, we will participate in village ceremonies with Fijian Chiefs, and pick up some new moves from village dancers. After the sailing adventure of a lifetime, we will return to the mainland to prepare for our departure back to the States. Our final night is spent reminiscing about our incredible adventure during our farewell banquet.Day 28
Our return trip home will see us depart Fiji and arrive on the same day in Los Angeles (we will cross the international date line in the reverse direction)! Upon arrival in United States, we will pass through customs together and help group members to their connecting flights.
