How much time will we have to enjoy the beach?
Throughout our trip, we’ll have access to the beach. Whether surfing, sea kayaking, or sailing we’ll be able to enjoy Hawaii and Kauai’s famous beaches, warm waters, and beautiful weather. During our sailing adventure we’ll also have the chance to snorkel in diverse locations with the opportunity to see amazing coral reefs, tropical fish and giant sea turtles.

I already have my PADI Open Water Certification, do I have to go through the course again?
If you already have your PADI Open Water you do not have to go through the course again. One of your two leaders will have their certification and during the days the other participants are in the classroom you will be able to complete additional dives.

What will sea kayaking be like?
We’ll spend our days in easily maneuverable sea kayaks, exploring the wonders of the Kauai coast. We’ll have the opportunity to paddle past magnificent lava flows and palm lined white sandy beaches and to see giant sea turtles, spinner dolphins and flying fish. Each night we will be able to enjoy spectacular sunsets and Kauai’s famous beaches from our remote coastal campsites. This is an adventure like no other!

Will we be sailing our boat during our sailing adventure?
An experienced captain will pilot our boat, and we’ll be able to spend much of our time enjoying the amazing surroundings. However, we’ll also have the chance to learn new nautical skills. We’ll also have a marine biologist on board to teach us about Hawaii’s abundant marine wildlife.

What is the weather like in Hawaii?

Throughout our time in Hawaii and Kauai, we’ll enjoy warm, sunny days complemented by brief afternoon showers. Our nights will be perfect, with the temperature cooled to a perfect 70 degrees by a pleasant ocean breeze. Hawaiian weather will serve as a perfect complement to our beautiful surroundings, allowing us to fully enjoy all of our time here and make memories and friendships that will last a lifetime.

How do we get around when we are in Hawaii and Kauai?
During our time on the two Islands we will be driving in vans to get to our different destinations. On the days that we travel between the islands we will be traveling on inter-island planes. (The flights are included in your tuition.) During our sailing portion we will be aboard a sailboat, exclusive to our group, and explore the beautiful Kona Coast from the water.

Will I be able to call home during the trip?

Yes. Upon arrival, at the start of your trip, you will be asked by your leaders to call home and let your parents know you have arrived safely. You will also have the opportunity to send home as many letters as you want and your parents will be able to follow your trip through a series of updates that your leaders will write during the summer.

What will my group be like?
Your group will be the most important and memorable part of your Wilderness Ventures experience. Your group will have 13 students with two leaders, one male and one female. Our groups are co-ed and made up of students from all over the country and internationally as well. The other students in your group will be just as excited as you are about the Hawaii Kauai trip and the activities you’ll be doing.

What kind of food will we eat?
Your fellow trip participants, with help from your leaders, will create the menus for your trip. Everyone will be involved in this process to ensure a wide variety of food choices that provide a balanced diet to fuel our bodies. We shop in regular grocery stores and teach you how to plan for and obtain great food for camping expeditions. The food is delicious, healthy, and there will be plenty of it.

How will I get to know more about my leaders before the summer starts?
Before the summer starts your leaders will be sending you a letter introducing themselves. They will include information about their background as well as some details about the group you will be traveling with this summer.
