Day 1
Passing over the unmistakable Golden Gate Bridge, Your plane will set down in San Francisco, right in the heart of the Bay Area. Excited to jump-start your adventure, as you deboard your plane you will immediately be greeted by your trip leaders, a group who unmistakably shares your enthusiasm. Next, you'll meet your teammates as they all arrive at the airport. While new at first, it's amazing how much you can have in common with kids from all over the country. And, as the entire group finds each other and assembles, we'll hit the road towards our first campsite. Once there, it's simply bonding and relaxation time, for we have a big day ahead of us. We'll set up camp for the first time and enjoy our first fire-cooked meal under the Californian stars.Days 2-3
First stop is fun and excitement on the waves at Half Moon Bay! With the aid of professional instructors, you'll hang-ten under the California sun. A great activity to end our trip, after our days of surfing are over we'll all gather around the table for our celebratory banquet. A time to enjoy each other's company before our morning departure, it's truly a great kick off to our awe-inspiring adventure.Days 4-9
Next we'll embark on some of the most awe-inspiring hikes this area has to boast. From thriving alpine meadows, to glassy emerald lakes, to valley fields of mountain wild flowers, you'll hardly believe you've covered such drastically diverse landscape on foot. All in all, you're time spent in Yosemite will surely set a positive tone for the rest of your trip. But most of all, you'll be amazed at the noticeable transition you and your fellow venturers have made from a group of kids to an inseparable team.Days 10-15
After Yosemite we set our sites northward in the direction of the Trinity Alps Wilderness. Possibly one of California's best-kept secrets, we'll explore its backcountry for four days. While there, we'll practice all of the backcountry living skills we had previously acquired while in Yosemite. Additionally, every member of the team will have the chance to lead the group on a venture through the wilderness as "Leader of the Day" -- responsible for every aspect of the day's trek. Being a reliable team member is always important, but you'll be amazed at how much can be learned by being a reliable team leader. And finally, to celebrate our final night amongst the Trinity Alps, we'll be hosting a backcountry prom night! Making due with what we have, we'll construct decadent evening attire while dining on a feast appropriate for the night's event.Days 16-17
To rest our legs after the backcountry, we will drive to the Klamath River in Northern California. For two days we will raft exciting rapids, learn to "read the river," and spend the night on the river banks. Our trained river guides will navigate us safely through the whitewater, but we will definitely get wet! After this amazing experience, we will be ready to take on Mt. Shasta!Days 18-20
As our backcountry knowledge and progress continues to increase, so fittingly should our altitude. Mt. Shasta here we come! To further compliment our already honed camping and survival skills, we'll spend two days in mountaineering school prior to our summit attempt. Among other skills, we'll become educated on how to use ice axes, crampons and to travel in a rope team. Then finally, we'll attempt to scale this impressive 14,162 foot spire. Climbing and working as a team, you will quickly see how naturally everything you've learned throughout your trip comes into action. Your summit experience will surely be a team victory, but truly a personal triumph as well.Days 21-22
For our final two days together we'll be rejoining civilization. While exploring beautiful San Francisco, we'll browse through stores and souvenir shop for friends and family. Lastly, when our days together have drawn to a close, we'll gather for one last time to enjoy a feast fitting of our journey's memorable moments and glorious victories. Nobody likes goodbyes, but sometimes they're inevitable. But even though we must part ways, you can do so with a world of memories, experiences, and reassurance that you'll keep in touch with so many of the special individuals that seem like family to you after such a short while.
