Day 1
Welcome to beautiful Jackson Hole! Flying over the Teton Range is truly a unique experience, as well as a chance to get a glimpse into the territory in which you are about to venture. Upon entering the airport you will be quickly greeted by your new group leaders as well as meet your new teammates at the baggage claim. Once everyone has arrived and telephoned home we’ll then drive a short ten minutes to our first campsite in Grand Teton National Park. Once we get there we’ll spend the rest of the evening getting to know our new surroundings, learning about our gear, and most importantly, getting to know our new friends. In hindsight, after two weeks, you’ll be amazed that your new best friends that you’ve come to know so well are the same strangers you met on your first day in the Jackson Hole airport.Day 2-3
As a way to get to know each other better, we will take the time to enjoy the thrilling Class III white water rapids of the Snake River. We will raft through famous rapids such as "Champagne," the "Big Kahuna," and "Lunch Counter." Our fun on the river will develop our sense of teamwork and wet our appetites for our upcoming whitewater kayaking experience. First however, we'll take a day to explore some of the wonders of Grand Teton National Park, day hiking in the foothills of these majestic peaks where we'll be doing our climbing school later in our adventure.Day 4-7
Always a group favorite, one of our most exciting activities finds us in the town of Jackson where we’ll get acquainted with our new whitewater kayaking gear! Feeling like pros, we’ll all be sporting spray skirts, helmets and colorful hard shell kayaks. For starters, we’ll meet up with river guides who will teach us the basics in a pool so that we’ll become more confident in our boats. The next day we’ll head outdoors to the peaceful Slide Lake. There we’ll practice paddling maneuvers, our hip-snap, and wet exits from our boats; some of us even mastering the art of rolling our kayaks! After each day on the water, we’ll head back to our campsite in Grand Teton National Park reviewing the skills we’ve learned that day, and play games together around the campfire. Finally, our last two days are spent on the wild Hoback and Snake RiversDay 8-10
We’ll be spending the next days climbing. Accompanied by expert climbing guides, we’ll start as students in basic climbing school. Learning skills such as knot tying and belay techniques, we’ll then feel confident to make a multi-pitch ascent of a peak the next day. Climbing is without a doubt one of life’s most fulfilling activities; although challenging at times, there is nothing quite as rewarding as conquering a summit.Day 11-14
Our culminating activity will take us on a sea kayaking adventure in Yellowstone National Park! Yellowstone is home to the second largest high alpine lake in the world, and from sea kayaks we’ll really be able to enjoy its beauty. Before pushing off from shore however, we’ll be sure to visit Old Faithful. Appropriately named, Old Faithful will amaze us with its hourly burst of steam and water, sometimes reaching 120 feet high! Touring through Yellowstone, one quickly comes to understand how this astonishing area struck its first observers so impressively as to deem it America’s first national park. And what better way to absorb the staggering splendor of this landscape than from the seat of a sea kayak! From our kayaks we’ll see plumes of steam rising out of the ground bordered by rocks of unusual red and yellow colors. The native wildlife of Yellowstone is also something that will be new to most of us. While touring we’re likely to be sharing this land with bison, grazing elk, mule deer, river otters, moose, and maybe even a wolf! Along the way, we’ll also take time to learn the fundamentals of wilderness travel such as map and compass use, cooking, as well as camp set up. This will truly be a wonderful climactic activity to a once in a lifetime adventure.Days 15-16
After our incredible voyage through America's first National Park, we’ll all gather together one last time for our end-of-trip banquet. Letting someone else cook for us for a change, it’ll be a night of reminiscing, laughs, awards, and bittersweet goodbyes. Then sadly, the next morning we’ll head back to the Jackson Hole airport where it all began to go our separate ways. But of course, not without hearts filled with memories and new friends to last a lifetime.
