Sea Kayaking in Prince William Sound
Today is the first day kayaking and it was the first time I have ever been sea kayaking. It was literally a perfect day, sunny, warm and just plain fun. A couple of wakes from boats made it even better. The whole trip I was just taking as many pictures as possible. After a morning of kayaking, everyone stopped for lunch which we all got to pick from our personal food we are carrying. I went for a peanut butter bagel sandwich and some GORP, yum! After lunch the scenery just kept getting better and better as we went on. Some seals, otters and whale sightings made it all more exciting. Before we got into camp my leader helped me make a call from the radio to all the ships around us that we were crossing at a certain point. It was fun and easy paddling to our first campsite for the trip. The campsite was awesome with a perfect place to swim in the 40-degree water, for those that were brave enough to jump in. Jambalaya for dinner made the day end perfect. I don't know what it is, but food just seems to taste better out here. The only thing left to cap off this day is a warm night in our tents. Majestic Denali
Today was our second day of backpacking in Denali State Park. We woke up by Skinny Lake and got ready for our day on the trail. We had warm breakfast of oatmeal and hot chocolate. We were ready to start hiking on the trail by 9 o'clock, a new best for our group! Backpacking was more challenging then I thought it would be, but it was so much fun. I felt so hard core doing it. After a few hours of hiking we made it to the high point of today's route. At the top we took a long break for lunch and took in amazing views of Denali in the distance. Even from where we were it looks massive! After lunch we continued down the trail and set up our camp near a sweet marsh. I am LOVING Alaska!Rafting the Lion's Head
Today was our day of rafting on the Matanuska River. We rafted the Lion's Head Canyon section of the river. Starting off the day we chilled out in the boats on a nice easy paddle, getting used to the boats. We saw lots of moose and some really cool cliffs. Then when we were all used to the boats and paddling we went through the big rapid part of the river. We hit some awesome class III and class IV rapids. By the end of the day everyone had been splashed by the rapids! It was my first time whitewater rafting and I don't know how you could beat rafting in Alaska!
