Adventures on the Nantahala River

Today we woke up and ate pancakes for breakfast, and played group games like Ninja at the campground until it was time to leave for our inflatable whitewater kayaking adventure.  We met with our guides who got us set up with our equipment and headed out to the waters of the Nantahala.  We covered 8 miles in the kayaks and got to treat ourselves by getting out of the boats and swimming in the calm waters. We were even able to start a water fight, kids against leaders.  Of course the kids won! It was hilarious. When we were done we got free hot chocolate and headed back to camp.

Alpine Tower and Rafting the Chattooga

Yesterday, we woke up after another great night of sleeping under the stars, and ate a yummy breakfast. We then got ready to go to the Alpine Tower.  After learning climbing techniques from our guides we bagan climbing the Tower and the entire group made it to the top! After refueling with a great lunch we left to go zip lining. There were 11 different runs that took us over the forest we have spent the past two days exploring from below. It was so cool to see it from a different view point! Today we rafted the Chattooga River. The favorite part for every one in the group was Bull Sluice rapid, followed closely by the BBQ lunch the guides prepared for us.  We are now back at the campsite playing capture the flag, eating fresh peaches, and preparing the campfire for s'more after the sunsets.  It's hard to believe this trip is almost over.  It has been a blast and I'm going to be sad to leave all of my new friends.

So Long, Farewell

I'm sitting here waiting for my flight to leave writing one last entry for the group journal. We all woke up at bright and early this morning, packed our bags and took down our tents to go to the airport. Everyone got checked in for our flights back home.  There were many tears and even though I'm excited to see my family, I'm sad about leaving all my new friends. Waiting in line to go through security we reminiced about all the good, funny times we had together on this amazing trip. It was an amazing time and I can't wait until we see each other again!
