TESTIMONIAL
We knew that Dustin’s experience at Wilderness Ventures would be great but it exceeded our highes t expectations! He had a wonderful time and the growth and confidence that took place in just 27 days was overwhelming. As parents, we felt that you provided a challenging opportunity for young adults to work toward their maximum potential in all aspects of their life.

FOR OUR YOUNGEST STUDENTS Discover the magic of the Pacific Northwest on this perfect introduction to the outdoors, designed just for students completing the 6th grade. Our Pacific Northwest Explorer offers a wide variety of daytime introductory adventures and fun evening activities amidst a coastal environment of playful seals, majestic whales, old growth forests and endless shoreline.

Explore the San Juan Islands

From our arrival in Seattle, we'll board a ferry boat and sail into the San Juan Island archipelago, making camp on this offshore paradise for a series of day-long activities that will allow us to experience this new environment in a number of fun and exciting ways. We'll sea kayak among sea lions and orca whales under the careful instruction and guidance of our Wilderness Ventures sea kayaking guide. We'll hike to the top of Mount Constitution, the highest peak in the San Juan archipelago on aptly named Orca Island for invigorating views of the snowcapped volcanoes on the mainland. Cycling pastoral paths of San Juan island, we'll explore the cultural and natural beauty of this seaside wonderland. At night, we'll grow closer as a group around the campfire – telling stories and drifting to sleep under a blanket of Pacific stars. Before departing the San Juan Islands, we'll board our special whale watching boat and venture off-shore. From our boat-top observation tower, we'll be able to see Orca (killer) Whales playing in the clear waters of Haro Straight. We'll join local naturalists, who will set sail with us and teach us about whale ecology and behavior as these magnificent creatures breach and spout plumes of water into the air.

Raft the Suiattle River

Learn the basics of whitewater paddling on this fun and safe adventure down one of the Northwest's classic river destinations. With expert local guides at the helm, we'll paddle in teams down the thrilling whitewater, recounting our unforgettable stories at the conclusion of this wonderful day.

Ferry to the Olympic Peninsula

Boarding yet another ferry boat, we'll venture to the far, western coast of Washington to explore the largest rainforest in the northern hemisphere. We'll discover old forts of the settling era and explore an ancient Native American whaling village on the shores of one of the last remaining stretches of Wilderness Beach in the country.

Explore the Olympic Mountains

While the rainy months give the area its supernaturally large trees and extra-dense layer of ancient green forest, we're lucky enough to be here during the consistently dry and sunny summertime. Taking advantage of the good weather, we'll play on the sandy wilderness beaches that line the Pacific Ocean. We'll also learn, first-hand, about the coastal marine life that populates the tidal pools along the shore and stroll to the top of the famous Olympic Mountains for unforgettable views of the azure Pacific. Plus, no exploration would truly be complete without the opportunity to raft the Olympic waters of the exciting Elwha River. Our skills ripened from our adventure on the Suiattle, we'll love paddling the rapids of this rainforest-fed river. Before departing the Olypic Penninsula, we'll take a dip in one of the natural hot springs that populate the Elwha River valley.

Explore Mount Rainier

If you've never played in the snow on a warm summer's day, you'll love the chance to enjoy the variety of environments and ecosystems of Mount Rainier National Park. We'll hike and adventure among the different climates and environments of this wonderful region – taking time to learn about these most heavily-glaciated peak in the the contiguous United States.

Explore Seattle

After playing in the snow in shorts, we'll head back to Seattle. We'll explore the famous Space Needle and Pike Place Market. We'll finish the day with our traditional Northwest banquet, boarding our flights home the next day. Introductory Adventure Designed for 6th Graders This area had been our home for 37 years; we know all of the “secret” places where we can provide truly unique experiences.
